THE 4F's POLICIES
Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) is committed to addressing critical challenges facing Malawi through our 4Fs Policy. This comprehensive framework focuses on four interconnected pillars: Forex, Fuel, Fertilizer and Food. By tackling these key issues, we aim to create a solid foundation for a prosperous and self- sufficient Malawi.
Forex: Strengthening Malawi's Currency
A stable and strong currency is essential for Malawi’s economic growth. AFORD will work to:
- Promote export- led growth
- Encourage foreign investment
- Implement prudent fiscal policies
Fuel: Energizing Malawi's Economy
Reliable and affordable fuel is critical for Malawi’s economic development. AFORD will:
- Invest in renewable energy sources
- Improve fuel supply chain management
- Promote energy efficiency
Food:Ensuring Malawi's Food Security
Food Security is a fundamental human right. AFORD will:
- Implement policies to increase food production
- Support irrigation development
- Promote sustainable agricultural practices
Tertilizer:Boosting Agricultural Productivity
Fertilizer is a crucial input for Malawi’s agricultural sector. AFORD will:
- Increase fertilizer subsidies for smallholder farmers
- Promote sustainable agricultural practices
- Support local fertilizer production
The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) is a political party in Malawi that has played a significant role in the country’s transition to multiparty democracy. Founded in 1993 by Chakufwa Chihana, AFORD has been a vocal advocate for democracy, social justice and equality.
Chakufwa Chihana was born on July 21, 1939, in Rumphi District. He received his education in Malawi before proceeding to Tanzania for further studies. He became involved in trade unionism at an early age and quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the leading trade unionists in Malawi.
In 1980s Chihana became increasingly vocal in his criticism of the one party state regime of President Hastings Kamuzu Banda. His advocacy for multiparty democracy and human rights made him a target for persecution by the Banda regime.
In the late 19early 1980s and early 1990s, pressure began to build for Malawi to transition to multiparty democracy. Chakufwa Chihana was at the forefront of this movement, advocating for democratic reforms and an end to the one- party state.
On April 7, 1992, Chihana was arrested by the police at his home in Blantyre. He was charged with sedi9tion and detained without trial. Chihana’s arrest sparked widespread condemnation from local and international human rights organizations. Continue Reading....

Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) is horrified and saddened by the malicious fabrication of a letter circulating on social media, falsely attributed to our President RT. Hon. Enoch Chihana having condemned the demonstrations in Mzuzu. This letter is a blatant attempt to mislead the public and undermine our party values. As Aford, we uphold the Constitution that guarantee the right to freedom of association (Section 32) and peaceful assembly (Section 32) (2). We believe that these rights are essential to a healthy democracy. We condemn the spread of false information for it has the potential to facilitate unnecessary tensions in our peaceful country. We would like to warn the perpetrators that forgery is a serious crime that undermines trust and stability in our society. This trend should completely stop and be ignored entirely. Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) wishes to categorically refute and disassociate itself from a fake statement circulating on social media falsely claiming that: "AFORD condemns inflammatory remarks by DPP officials that may inflict violence and urges unity" We view this malicious fabrication as a deliberate attempt by unpatriotic individuals to sow discord, spread misinformation and undermine the democratic process in Malawi Against this background, AFORD denies the authenticity of the purported fake statement. AFORD distances itself from false claims and reaffirms its commitment to democratic values. In view of this, AFORD calls upon the public to disregard this misinformation and remain vigilant against such malicious attempt to destabilize our nation. The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) would Iike to infom the goneral public that it has suspended its Secretary General Hon. Wakuda Bias Kamanga and the Director of Events Hon, Judith Mang'anda with immediate effect. This follows an allegation that the SG has been sharing sensitive information to other polifical parties including that of electoral alliances when the party has not made any decision on the same, in so doing rupturing the trust of the Aliance for Democracy which was subjected to him. Following a series of disciplinary hearing summons that were extended to the Secretary General but never appeared, this decision was therefore amived at. On the other hond, Hon. Judith Mang'anda is suspected to have commited simlar offense and is hereby suspended. As a molher of democracy, AFORD believes in freedom of association and that people are free to join any political party of their choice but this should be done responsibly. Signed: Hon.
